HOLY FRICK, IT'S SOMETHING ORIGINAL?? IT'S BEEN FOREVER.
This was a commission from my older sister for her blog, Roxy + Kiki: the Blog! It's pretty much about her and her friend's nightlife adventures, and it is extremely entertaining.
The prompt was a logo that would fit the both of them. Specifically, I was asked to make a mermaid in a martini glass holding a skull. This is the result!
My sister, who on the blog is named Roxy, absolutely loves The Little Mermaid, so of course the mermaid bears a resemblance to Ariel. The skulls represent Kiki, who loves skulls (and I believe The Nightmare Before Christmas? I'll need to fact-check that, but I'm pretty sure) and the color purple. The drink is some sort of cherry-based alcohol that's name has fled from my mind, but I know it's what they both love to drink! And they love tattoos, so this mermaid has ink.
Now, if you notice in the tattoos (and I know I haven't mentioned this to Roxy!) there's a lotus flower. I put that in there as a symbol for her, because it's a very common metaphor for those who have brought themselves out of a rut, beauty comes from the strangest places, etc. Basically, I put it because I'm proud of her. She went from drab to fab by moving to California and it's like a symbol of my pride! (and I hope she reads this, eventually!)
That's enough rambling for now! Just enjoy the picture and please take heed to the legal warnings.
